When I decided to open DayBreak Adult Daycare Center, I made a deliberate, non-negotiable decision: I would not build another institutional, clinical-smelling, fluorescent-lit facility where seniors sat in rows watching television.
I had spent years as a nurse watching what happened to seniors in those environments. The light would leave their eyes. The spark would dim. And I kept asking myself: why does aging have to look like this?

The traditional model of adult daycare was built around a single priority: safety. Keep seniors safe, keep them supervised, keep them medicated, keep them calm. Joy, dignity, beauty, stimulation — these were considered extras. Luxuries. Nice-to-haves.
